Message Pressure is definitely regulated at the pump since i cant go over 120psi of oil pressure, which is around where the TT pump's relief valve opens up.

At the filter, i am suspecting that removing/capping the oil cooler feed (a ~60 psi relief valve) and flooring it causes the oil flow to spike. This would mean that the pressure before element would be higher than after the filter element for a period hence would open up oil bypasses into the galleys. I see the filter element as a resistance to the flow and there will be even more resistance when oil viscosity is increased.

The filter bypasses may still open, under some conditions, when keeping the 60psi feed to the oil cooler, but what i am suspecting is that filter bypassing occurs more often when the 60psi relief is taken off.
